Celebrated Ugandan female athlete Shida Leni is set to literally pitch camp at Silver Springs Hotel, after the management of the facility extended her complimentary usage of its Espace Gym, until the Tokyo Olympics in July 2021.
Shida Leni, 27, has been trained for over 7 years by the British husband and wife coaching team of Kevin and Sue O’Connor.
In that time she has broken the 400m National Record on 7 occasions, and last year broke the 200m National Record, as well as winning 400m Silver Medal at the World University Games in Italy, narrowly missing out on Gold.
Espace Gym’s Part In Shida’s Success
Commenting about how the gym has been so in Kevin commented, “Shida is tall and slim, but immensely strong due to her use of the Espace Gym. By allowing her to use its gym three times a week, free of charge, Silver Springs Hotel has played a huge part in Shida’s success.”
“Shida’s 2021 target,” Kevin continued, “is to qualify for the Olympic Games. To do this, she needs to improve her 400m National Record by a tiny amount, from 41.47 sec to 41.35 sec., which is only around 90cms. If she qualifies, I believe she will be the only Ugandan sprinter (male or female) at the Games, as all Uganda’s other representatives will be middle or long distance runners.”
“I think the Espace Gym is the best gym in Kampala. I hope other sportswomen and men, and the general public, can use it more” concluded Kevin.
