Rtd. Col. Shaban Bantariza, who was the deputy government spokesperson, has passed away, after succumbing to the deadly Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

tre, breathed his last at Mulago Referral Hospital, where was rushed over the weekend after developing hypertension.
It is said however that tests were done on him which turned out positive for COVID-19 although by the time the revelation was made he had already breathed his last.

Announcing his unfortunate death, Brig. Gen. Flavia Byekwaso, the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) spokesperson, wrote thus on twitter; “The UPDF family with great sadness have learnt of the passing on of the deputy Executive director of Uganda Media Centre and deputy government spokesman Rtd Col Shaban Bantariza at Mulago national referral hospital. May his soul rest in peace.”
Funeral arrangements for Col. Bantariza’s final sendoff will be communicated by the UPDF later and we shall update you about the same consequently.
According to the Ministry of Health, Uganda has so far registered 101 COVID-19 deaths, out of 11,557 cumulative confirmed cases and 7,351 recoveries.
