Will Mugisha Muntu become a joint opposition candidate?
That is the question what most of Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) supporters who took to different social media platforms yesterday to wish him a happy birthday would want answered.
Going by the current events, although it’s highly unlikely that change-seeking forces in this country will rally behind one candidate, that didn’t stop senior politicians across the political divide from joining thousands on Ugandans to wish the level headed and highly respected General a happy birthday as he turns 62.
Despite the fundamental differences between Muntu and Besigye that forced Muntu to leave the Forum for Democratic Change, a party that he had helped to form, four time presidential aspirant Kizza Besigye took to twitter to wish him a happy birthday.
Besigye ended his message by calling referring to Muntu as ‘Ndugu’, the Kiswahili word for brother or comrade.
On the other hand, Gen. Henry Tumukunde, who named Muntu among his sureties in March this year when he appeared in court, revealed that the former army commander was one of his oldest and most reliable friends.
Meanwhile, the former leader of opposition Winnie Kizza, who officially joined ANT in August, wrote a message on Facebook in which she told her over 170000 followers that Mugisha Muntu was a gentleman and a true leader.
Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine and his friend Mityana MP Francis Zaake, also used their official Facebook pages to wish him a happy birthday, with Zaake, 29, thanking him for trusting his ability when he appointed him a shadow minister in the FDC at a time when he had just joined parliament.
