Hundreds of people who had gathered at Rurii stadium, Mathioyi in Murang’a county, in Kenya, on Friday, could not believe their eyes when man charged at Vice President William Ruto and tried to slap him.
Luckily for Kenya’s number two, plain clothed security officers quickly grabbed and pinned the man down before he hit the Vice President.

Eyewitnesses revealed that at the time of the attempted assault, Ruto was walking to his car after a rally when a man who looks to be in his late 30’s, emerged from the crowd and charged towards him with a raised hand. However, Ruto’s guard swiftly disabled the attacker and arrested him.
A visibly shaken Ruto was then quickly whisked away by his security guards and went to neigbouring Nyeri county, where another crowd was waiting for him at Othaya sub-county.

However, during an interview later, the Vice President’s Communications Director, David Mugonyi, denied the incident and claimed the man was simply trying to give Ruto a packet of tea leaves, although none of the photos captured show that. The Photos instead show five of Ruto’s bodyguards roughing up the man.
The incident comes two days after Jubilee Vice Chair David Murathe attacked Ruto over his frequent visit to Mt Kenya region.

It is said that Kenyan politicians opposed to Ruto’s plan to contest for president accuse him of frequenting the region in order to gain influence and radicalise the youth there.
