President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has praised the Special Forces Commandos for thoroughly beating Kyadondo East Member of Parliament  Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine during the Arua by-election fracas that happened last year.

Museveni made the remarks on Friday at Kabalye Police Training School in Masindi District, during the passing out of 4809 police officers and constables.

Museveni said during his speech that; “ The other day there was a fracas in West Nile, where our young friend Bobi Wine was trying to fight with security people. I think they beat him a bit. And then they came and said …oooh…a  Member of Parliament was beaten. Well, I said, let me study how he was beaten. Now when I studied, I found the man had been beaten properly. In the right way. This was because…I think they were the SFC people, who are not police-minded. You know the SFC are used to doing other things  not police work. But somehow they managed to act properly. I was actually surprised.”

He added that; “When they went where this Honourable Member was in the room,  they were looking for him because they had caused some problems the day before. Then these people attacked them. They tried to box them. They also boxed them back until they subdued them. And after subduing them, they didn’t beat them again. So I was surprised that these people acted properly. It was self defence and beyond self defence they didn’t beat…..”

Museveni also tweeted shortly after the functions thus; “When I look at the police group that I passed out today, I feel so happy, they are all young. They so much look like me in 1961. I urged them to remain loyal to their mission, for the future is bright. We are not only about the numbers but also quality. In 1979, we recruited graduates in the police for the first time. We said education must be part of our police.”

The President noted that I also directed the new police entrants to protect women from thugs. Why allow thugs to beat women when you are nearby. Nobody should attack a member of the public when police are nearby, subdue that thug.
