The administrators of Map Mediya and Ghetto Media must be scratching their heads wondering how best to protect themselves from relentless hackers who are determined to wipe their online pages off the internet.
Days after the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) contacted Google about what it sees as problematic media outlets that are notorious for publishing false information and posting inflammatory videos, hackers on Sunday hacked the two popular Facebook pages that are considered as news sources to promote Bobi Wine’s political ambitions.
After taking over the administrator role of the two pages the new in-charge posted messages claiming they had hacked those pages with an intention of protecting the image of Uganda which they say was dented by the NUP administrators.
Following the hacking, it didn’t take long for former NUP supporter and now National Resistance Movement (NRM) activist Ashburg Kato to write on his page claiming that he was behind the hacking.
He went on to threaten Fred Lumbuye a NUP Facebook followers’ favourite, Kakensa Media, a social media personality who openly supports Bobi Wine and uses every chance to discredit President Yoweri Museveni’s government, among others that he will hack their platforms too and bring them down.
Kato ended his message by asking his 167,000 followers to notify him every time NUP leaning pages reach 50 thousand followers.
However, we have learnt that the Map Mediya and Ghetto Media platforms have since created new pages following the hacking, which quickly regained some of the old followers thanks to an update about the same on Bobi Wine’s Facebook page.
