The police in Kasese District are investigating the cause of a horrible accident that occurred in Kasese District on Wednesday morning, which claimed over 30 people and left several others injured.
According to eyewitness, the accident occurred at Kihogo along Hima-Rugendabara road in Kasese District, when a truck that was carrying a coffin and mourners collided head on with another truck carrying cement, before mangling several other vehicles, including commuter taxis.
“At least 32 dead bodies were recovered at the scene and five survivors, who were referred to Kilembe hospital. Our emergency response team working with police and UPDF led by Major Charles Nzei have managed the incident,” Uganda Red Cross Society said in a statement on Twitter.
The Uganda Red Cross spokesperson, Ms Irene Nakasiita said the cement truck fell on three cars before another crashed into them.
At the time pf filing the story the police had not yet issued an official statement about this tragedy and what could have caused it. But we shall bring details when the police release a preliminary report from their investigations.
