Wednesday evening was a sad moment in the football world as Diego Almando Maradona, one of the greatest football players of all time died after suffering a cardiac arrest at his home in Tigre, Argentina. He was 60 years old at the time of his death.
Soon after the world got this sad news, social media was awash with tributes to the Argentinian legend from the football world.

Teams he played for and against, players he played with and against, those he inspired and looked up to him, fans and lovers of the beautiful game all paid their respects to a player that was immensely talented and did unbelievable things with the ball.

Fellow compatriot Lionel Messi, whose football talent has been frequently compared to that of Maradona said on Instagram:
“A very sad day for all Argentines and football. He leaves us but does not leave, because Diego is eternal. I take all the cute moments lived with him and wanted to take advantage to send condolences to all his family and friends. RIP.”

Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo tweeted, “Today I say goodbye to a friend and the world says goodbye to an eternal genius. One of the best ever. An unparalleled magician. He leaves too soon, but leaves a legacy without limits and a void that will never be filled. Rest in peace, ace. You will never be forgotten.”
You were always a genius. Today is a very sad day and a great loss.

Napoli, the Italian side with whom Maradona won two Serie A titles renamed their stadium the “Diego Almando Maradona Stadium” to honour his legacy.

Football stars like England’s Gary Lineker, Didier Drogba, Kylian Mbappe, Mesut Ozil, and the legendary Pele among others all talked well of Maradona in their social media posts, praising his talent and rightly so, as we as talking about how he was an inspiration to them.
Diego Maradona was truly great.
