Superstar rapper Dwayne Michael Carter famously known as Lil Wayne can now breathe a huge sigh of relief and sleep comfortably after President Donald Trump pardoned him, just a few days to the end of his presidency.
Wayne, 38, who last month pleaded guilty to illegally possessing a loaded gun while travelling to Miami in 2020 although he had not yet been sentenced, was looking at a possibility of being jailed up to ten years.
His pardon announcement included two statements by celebrities Brett Berish and Deion Sanders, who described him as “trustworthy, kind- hearted and generous.”
Berish’s statement reads in part; “Mr Carter has exhibited his generosity through commitment to a variety of charities, including donations to research hospitals and a host of food banks…”
Another public figure and supporter of the pardon, Deion Sanders, described Wayne as “a provider of his family, a friend to many, a man of faith, a natural giver to the less fortunate, a way maker and a game changer”.
It should be remembered that Lil Wayne endorsed Donald Trump a few days towards the end of his 2020 presidential campaign.
Trump also pardoned rapper Kodak Black, who was sentenced to 46 months in prison for making a false statement on a federal document. Kodak Black has already served half of his sentence.
