Reports coming in from indicate that at least two have been shot dead and scores others injured as police battled supporters of National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential contender Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, who was arrested on Wednesday afternoon by police in Luuka District.

Riots broke out in several parts of downtown Kampala, especially Kisekka Market area, where Bobi Wine supporters burnt tyres in the middle and blocked traffic, which prompted the military and police to fire teargas and bullets to disperse them.

In the process, two men who are yet to be identified were shot dead, according to pictures circulating on social media, while video footage shared on twitter and Facebook show military police battling civilians as they fire teargas canisters at them.

The riots broke out shortly after the police had arrested Bobi Wine and driven him to Nalufenya Police Station in Jinja, where they also fired teargas and rubber bullets to disperse Bobi Wine’s supporters who had gathered at the police station demanding his release.
