The Uganda U20 team known as the Hippos have been crowned CECAFA U20 champions on Wednesday evening of December 2, 2020, after they convincingly beat AFCON Zonal Qualifiers hosts Tanzania at the Black Rhino Academy stadium in Karatu.
Uganda scored two goals from each half to claim the victory, taking an early lead through Najib Yiga in the 11th minute that was cancelled out by a penalty kick scored by Tanzania’s Hamisi Sulimani in the 30th minute.

The Hippos reclaimed their lead through Steven Sserwada who scored just a minute before half time. In the second half, Uganda showed their hunger for more goals and scored two, one from Ivan Bogere in the 61st minute and another from Aziz Kayondo in the 71st minute to round off the scoring.
This win means that Uganda have now, for the first time, qualified for the AFCON U20 final tournament that will take place next year in Mauritania from February 14th to March 4th.

FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo has promised to reward each player with $1000 as a token of appreciation for winning this tournament and qualifying for the continental tournament.
Here are Uganda’s full results during this tournament that has been played in different stadiums in Tanzania.
December 2: Uganda Hippos 4 – 1 Tanzania
November 30: Uganda Hippos 3 – 1 Kenya
November 25: Uganda 6 – 1 Burundi
