5 Netted After Police Raid City Hotel To Bust Gang Dealing In Fake Dollars

The police in Kampala have in custody five suspects who were arrested Thursday in a raid on dealers in counterfeit U.S dollars and other currency from Ndeeba, in the Kampala Central Business District (CBD).

The suspects, who are currently being interrogated at the Police Special Investigations Directorate (SID) in Kireka, were arrested from areas of Katwe Division.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson CP Fred Enanga, who paraded the suspects, that they were netted after the police received intelligence that  there is a racket of people circulating counterfeit dollars within Kampala.

“The Directorate of Crime Intelligence in close coordination with the territorial police in Katwe, conducted a raid on a criminal gang dealing in counterfeit US dollars, at Linca Hotel located in Ndeeba, Kampala District.”

Enanga added that the suspects will be arraigned in court after the police conducting investigations such that they can face various charges, including being in possession of and uttering counterfeit currency.

However, Enanga did not divulge the details of the suspects or how much money the police had found in their possession, although he noted that details will be availed when the police complete their investigations.
