At least 6 people have been confirmed to have died and many other injured in a terrible accident that happened at Mailo Tano, along the Mbale-Tirinyi Road on Wednesday morning.
According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred after a commuter taxi registration number UBH 437K collided head-on with a Raum car registration No. UAT 995A that was driving from the opposite.
“The territorial Police at Budaka has today 04/05/2022 at around 0600hrs registered a fatal accident at Mailo tano, Mbale-tirinyi road occurred that claimed lives of six people,” ASP Faridah Nampiima, the Traffic Police publicist said in a statement.

She added that; “The accident involved motor vehicles Reg no- UAT 995A (Raum) and UBH 437K (Toyota Hiace) and UBJ 676W (Toyota Hiace).”
Nampiima identified the dead as; Mulabi David, Namarome Fatima, Nambafu Kurusum, Kafero Isaka, and a yet to be unidentified male adult.
She revealed that of the passengers identified as Nandigobe saida sustained serious injuries while two others yet to be identified survived the accident without any injuries.
Nampiima attributed the cause of accident to over-speeding by the speeding taxi, which lost control and rammed into the Raum car.
She revealed that the drivers of both vehicles are on the run, and efforts are underway to have them arrested.
“We want to caution all road users to be disciplined while on the road, most of the accidents are as a result of human errors that are avoidable once we drive carefully and responsibly,” Nampiima warned.
