The Acholi Parliamentary Group have reportedly endorsed Lamwo County MP, Hilary Onek for the speakership post, sources within the group have told our news Desk.
Onek is the minister of Relief and Disaster Preparedness.
Sources told us that the group arrived at this position during an impromptu meeting in Gulu where they have camped to oversee the burial preparations of Jacob Oulanyah, the fallen speaker.
Sources said the group believes that the position of speaker should be retained by the sub region where the fallen speaker, Oulanyah hailed from.
Onek is yet to publicly express interest in the position but sources said he is “interested.”
The group, sources said also gave a go ahead to MPs Aber Lillian, Ojara Martin Mapenduzi and Lamwaka Catherine to contest for the deputy speakership.
At the time of writing only deputy speaker, Anita Among had formally picked forms from the NRM headquarters expressing interest in replacing Oulanyah.
