Popular American musician, investor and philanthropist of Senegalese descent Aliaune Damala Badara Thiam aka Akon is in the country for a business visit.
The Lonely singer touched down at Entebbe International airport this Friday morning and he was received by the Presidential Advisor on diaspora affairs Abbey Walusimbi, officials from the Uganda Tourism Board and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, fellow musician Eddy Kenzo, and Sheik Ramadhan Mulindwa from the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Akon is expected to meet President Yoweri Museveni to discuss different investment opportunities in various sectors of energy, tourism, and infrastructure development among others.
On the tourism business of Akon’s visit, he will visit a number of tourist sites that Uganda is so famously known for, and religious institutions during his stay in Uganda.
It should be noted that Akon has had an interest in investing massively in Africa for years in projects that are intended to change the lives of Africans for the better. In 2018, Akon announced plans to establish a $6 billion futuristic Pan-African smart solar-powered city in Senegal dubbed “Akon City”.
According to plans, the 800-hectare city will feature shopping malls music studios, tourist resorts among other attractions. This is the second time Akon is coming to Uganda, the first time being that much-hyped concert in 2008 when he was at the peak of his career.
