Ugandan musician Azawi, who is staging a massive concert tonight at which she will launch her maiden album ‘African Music’, has become the first ever Ugandan musician to appear on the New York “Times Square” and Los Angels billboards.
No other Ugandan musician has ever been elevated to this level, which means that Azawi, who is signed to Swangz Avenue, is in a different league.
Azawi is slated to thrill her fans at the much-anticipated African Music Concert which will be held at Lugogo Grounds.
Besides Azawi however, the concert will also feature performances from various top Ugandan artists who include; Fik Fameica, Zex Bilangilangi, A-Pass, Winnie Nwagi, Grenade, Pinky, among others.
Born Priscilla Zawedde, Azawi grew up in a Kampala suburb and has towered above her lower middle-class background to become a popular musician in Uganda and beyond, barely a year since she started singing professionally.
Her music journey surprisingly starts with her being a dancer in 2005 when she joined a cultural dance troupe that performed around the country, although she later ventured into singing and doesn’t regret ever doing so.
