Popular Ugandan musician and former presidential contender Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine is seething with anger after authorities in Dubai cancelled his charity concert, which was aimed at raising funds to help Ugandans stranded in Dubai to return to Uganda.
Prior to cancelling the concert which had been slated to happen at Abu Hail Stadium Bobi Wine had been detained by authorities at Dubai airport for hours, reportedly being interrogated about matters regarding his party the National Unity Platform.
Bobi Wine made the revelation on Saturday afternoon after he posted on social media thus; “Unfortunately, our Charity Concert in Dubai has been cancelled! The venue owner has been instructed to cancel. The information available shows Ugandan authorities have been working tooth and nail to ensure it doesn’t happen! The first attempt was to deny me entry, and now this!”
He had earlier on tweeted that; “In Dubai to perform at a charity concert to assist some of the Ugandan immigrant workers. Been held at the airport for almost 10 hours, being interrogated mostly about NUP! My phone and passport have now been returned. Hopefully things go as planned. Will give an update. Thanks.”
“Landed in Dubai at 8:30pm. It’s now 5am. I’ve been held & interrogated for 8hrs. They asked me about NUP, it’s leaders, their phone numbers, my family members & their contacts! I have all necessary travel docs. They’ve confiscated my passport & my phone. Am literary under arrest,” the musician turned politician added.
However, the time of filing this article the authorities in Dubai had not yet issued a statement about the impasse or given Bobi Wine reasons why the concert had been cancelled.
