The leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP) party on Tuesday July 12, 2022, officially laid the foundation for the party’s headquarters which are to be constructed in Bwaise, a Kampala suburb.
Bobi Wine, who was flanked by party stalwarts David Rubongoya, Joel Ssenyonyi and others, vowed that the construction of party headquarters is proof that NUP is here to stay.
“Very pleased today to lay the foundation stone for the establishment of the @NUP_Ug headquarters in Bwaise, Kavule,” Bobi Wine said on social media shortly after the ceremony.
He added that; “Those who dismissed us as a mere wave will soon realise that we are a serious group, committed to leading the liberation struggle to its accomplishment.”
Currently NUP has its head offices in Kamwokya, a ghetto city suburb where Bobi Wine grew up.
Meanwhile, it should be noted that there is a splinter group led by Moses Kibalama, which claims to be the original NUP.
To that effect, Kibalama and his group last month announced that they had established the NUP headquarters in Rubaga Division.
They went ahead to relieve Bobi Wine and his colleagues of their duties before reassigning them new positions, although they have since trashed the move by maintaining that theirs is the genuine NUP.
It should be noted that Bobi Wine and his team officially bought NUP from Kibalama and his group although they (Kibalama and group) turned around and denied having sold it to him.
