Villa FC, which is one of Uganda’s legendary football clubs, has decided to go public after the management struggled to raise money to fund the Club in vain.
The revelation was made in a press statement released by the management in which they revealed that Sports Club Vila has since become a Community Club.
The Statement reads in part thus; “Our decision to reposition and redirect The Club’s ownership and governance Structure is a firm foundation for generations to come.
In 1975, we started a football club composed of boys in the areas of Nakivubo but little did we know that we were giving birth to the most successful club in the history of Ugandan Football.
We are here today to witness history and also inform our people, fans and the general public that Sports Club Villa hereby becomes the first modern-day Community Football in Uganda”
The Statement, which was drafted by the founding members, continues that; “Sports Club Vila, Runners Up of the CAF Club Crampons Can, Runners Up of CAF Confederations Cup, 3-times CECAFA Club Crampons, 16 times Uganda League Champions and 9-time Uganda Cup Holders, has gone through a trying period since 2004.
In July 2018, Sports Club Villa was faced with three (3) major challenges:
- Sporting Continuity
- Contested Ownership
- Lack of proper Governance
An interim Committee was constituted, headed by Eng. Willem Nkemba to address these three (3) major Challenges.
