Uganda’s youngest political party, the National Unity Platform (NUP), which is headed by Kyadondo East legislator Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine,  is currently vetting aspirants who will be the party’s flagbearers in the forthcoming 2021 general elections.

Over the weekend, the NUP Elections Management Committee released a list of successful candidates selected for Mayoral and LC Councilor positions within Kampala and Wakiso Districts.

However, popular figures like Joseph Mayanja aka Jose Chameleone did not make it to the list, among other members of the party.

Now news reaching our desk indicates that Lord Mayor-hopeful Jose Chameleone and over 200 other NUP aspirants have petitioned the party’s vetting committee to express their discontent after being dropped as NUP flagbearers  in  next year’s election.

They are now demanding for an explanation of the criteria used to select the candidates.

Commenting about the matter, Joel Ssenyonyi, the NUP spokesperson, said all the petitions will be fairly

considered and the party will deliver a fair judgement on the due date that will be communicated after consideration of the petitions by the vetting Committee.
