Today, Monday, May 17, 2021, will live long in the mind of the National Unity Platform (NUP) Spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi because he is currently in double celebrations . This is because the outspoken former journalist has been one of the 12,550 candidates to graduate from Makerere University as the university kicked off its 71st graduation ceremony today.

Ssenyonyi has endured four years at the School of Laws at Makerere University and come out a victor. Ssenyonyi expressed his joy on his social media pages, calling his time at Makerere University “tough.”

“Today I’ve become a lawyer after graduating from Makerere Law School. The four years were tough, having to juggle law school with many other aspects of my life, but God has been faithful,” Ssenyony’s tweet partly reads.

After being conferred on his law degree, Ssenyonyi later went to Parliament to take his oath of office as Nakawa Division West Member of Parliament.

“Later in the day, I was sworn in as MP-Nakawa West. God help me to use these two platforms to fight injustice,” Ssenyony’s tweet ended. Before joining politics, Joel Ssenyonyi spent several years as a news anchor at Serena-based NTV Uganda.

Ssenyonyi is not the only one with double celebrations. Soroti Woman MP Anna Adeke Ebaju also had a double win today after graduating from Makerere University with a Master’s degree in law, and also taking the oath of office at Parliament.
