Police in Entebbe are investigating the murder of Eriya Were Kato, six years of age, who according to his father went missing on July 3, 2021 until Tuesday when his decomposing body was recovered.
Following the boy’s disappearance, a case of a missing person was opened up at Kasenyi Police Station and on July 5, the father received a phone call from an unknown person asking for a ransom of Shs4 million.
The father said he was able to recognize the voice of the caller as that Moses Kaye. He informed the police and the suspect was arrested.
Upon interrogation, the suspect yesterday led the police to a nearby thicket, around 200m from Were’s home, where the body was found in a decomposing state.
The body was later taken to Kampala Capital City Authority mortuary at Mulago by the police for a postmortem as investigations go on.
We have learnt that three other suspects have since been arrested to help with the investigation. They will be arraigned in courts as soon as investigations are done to face charges of kidnap and murder.
Luke Owoyesigire said, the deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police publicist said that; “We would like to appeal to the public to remain vigilant about the whereabouts of their kids during this lockdown.”
