Ever since former Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga lost the election for the Speaker to Jacob Oulanyah on Monday this week, she has not been seen in public and people have been wondering what she is planning next, others speculating that she could have gone back to her birthplace in Kamuli to take a break after an intense couple of months.
However, that does not seem to be the case, if what our moles tell us is to go by. An insider has reliably informed us that Kadaga is critically ill and currently undergoing treatment at her home in Kampala and it is Dokolo District Woman Member of Parliament Cecilia Ogwal is right on her bedside taking care of her.
Our source has not divulged to us what kind of disease is torturing the former speaker but it is thought the loss of the speakership might have triggered her underlying health issues like diabetes.
It should be remembered that Kadaga had been in the top hierachy of Parliament for 20 years, having served as deputy speaker to the current Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi for 10 years, before becoming Speaker in 2011, a position she held until this week on Monday.
Commentators have been wondering how the oust speaker parliament will adjust to life outside power, having enjoyed the privileges that come with leading the legislative body of the country for that long. Others have speculated that President Yoweri Museveni might give her the nod for Vice President in the next cabinet, but all this is just speculation with no guarantee whatsoever.
