Fear Mounts As Health Workers In Mubende Get Infected With Ebola

The Ebola Virus disease is escalating in Uganda each day  that dawns and as you read this, the situation in Mubende District, where the virus was first detected, continues to deteriorate.

Reports coming in from Mubende indicate that so far 23 patients have succumbed to Ebola as of Tuesday September 27th, 2022 and at least Six (6) medics infected with the virus.


Sources reveal that as of Wednesday September 28, 2022, the following health workers had been confirmed infected with the Ebola Virus;

3 Senior House Officers

1 intern doctor

1 medical student and

1 Anesthetic officer

Meanwhile, by the time of filing this article all the six health workers that tested positive for Ebola at Mubende  Regional Referral Hospital had been transferred to Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital for specialised medical attention.

It should be noted that on  September 20th, 2022, Uganda officially declared an outbreak of the Sudan strain of Ebola Virus Disease in Mubende District.

Since then, officials from  the Ministry of Health together with medical experts from around the country have been working tirelessly to contain the virus and prevent it from spreading  to other districts.

In the same vein, the Ministry of Health has revealed that the Ebola Virus Disease has not been detected in Kampala yet.

The Minister for Health Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero confirmed this on Wednesday, after she dispelled fears that one person had died of Ebola Virus in Kasangati Town Council, Wakiso District on Tuesday, which is part of Metropolitan Kampala.

Dr. Aceng revealed in a  tweet that the sample tested from the Kasangati patient is turned negative for  Ebola and revealed that there are no confirmed cases of Ebola in Kampala as of now.

She however called upon the public to remain calm and vigilant as the Ministry of Health works on containing the situation.
