Fear Mounts As Suspected Ebola  Patient Dies In Wakiso District

By Ivan Mwine

Untold fear is mounting in several parts of Kampala Metropolitan Area over fears that the deadly Ebola virus is likely to have reached city suburbs.

This comes after reports filtering in indicating that a suspected Ebola patient died in Wakiso District on Monday night at home, something that has plunged both medics and patients into untold fear.

However, local authorities in Wakiso District fault health officials for taking long to respond to the matter even after being informed in time.

Tom Muwonge, the Kasangati Mayor, said that much as they identified the contacts of the deceased, their samples have not yet been taken for testing at the Uganda Virus Research Institute.

Muwonge also decried lack of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the health workers at Wakiso Health Centre,  which he said has put many of their lives at great risk.

We have however established that following the reporting of the matter by local authorities, an isolation facility has since been established at  Wakiso Health Centre and so far two suspected cases have already been admitted.

Sources at the Health Centre reveal that those in isolation is the father of the deceased and a boda-boda cyclist who transported them from Namulonge, Busukuma town, Wakiso district to their home where the late passed on.
