The outgoing Minister for Works and Transport Gen. Edward Katuma Wamala is undergoing medical attention, while his daughter and bodyguard are dead after unknown gunmen rained bullets on his official vehicle as he drove from his home in Kisota-Kisaasi, on Tuesday morning.
According to preliminary reports, yet to be identified gunmen who were riding on two motorcycles blocked Gen. Katumba’s vehicle number H4DF 2138 as he drove from his home in Kisaasi, before opening fire that killed his daughter and bodyguard Haruna Kayondo instantly, whereas the General sustained severe gunshot wounds.
Police from Ntinda and Kisaasi rushed to the scene to conduct preliminary investigations after they were alerted by citizens at the scene of crime shortly after the assassins had fled.
Shortly after reaching the scene, the police rushed Gen. Katumba to Medipal Hospital for immediate medical attention.
The bodies of his daughter and bodyguard were also removed from his official vehicle and put in an ambulance that drove them to Mulago Hospital for postmortem.
Sources close to the family have revealed to ExposedUganda.com that at the time of the attack Gen. Katumba was heading together with his daughter Brenda Nantongo Wamala to attend the funeral of his late mother-in-law, who passed away last night, at her home in Namasuba, Kampala.
Family sources have revealed that Nantongo, the slain daughter of Gen. Katumba, had just started working in Uganda, having returned from the United States recently.
By press time however, the police had not yet issued an official statement about this gruesome murder and the attack on Gen. Katumba’s life, although we shall bring the details as soon as possible.
