After enduring weeks of nail-biting anxiety, George Atuhaire’s supporters in Kibale East were thrown into jubilation after their man was declared the flag bearer of Kibale East by Alliance for National Transformation (ANT’s) Electoral Commission boss Dan Mugarura, who was represented by western Uganda ANT regional coordinator Jackson Wabyona.
Atuhaire, a law graduate of Kampala International University (KIU) who contested against the minister for Gender ,Labour and Social Development Frank Kagyigyi Tumwebaze in 2016 on Forum for Democratic (FDC) card after being declared the party flag bearer, vowed that this time round opposition supporters and other people who want to see credible leadership should know he that he is going to ensure that Tumwebaze is ousted from Parliament.
Atuhaire’s victory comes on the heels of an embarrassing mishap on Monday whereby his rival Agaba Nelson was wrongly declared the flagbearer before embarrassed party leaders realized the mistake that was made and quickly apologized, before they announced the genuine winner.
Immediately local party leaders were asked to make sure that the right candidate is declared on Tuesday.
Agaba, who works at ANT headquarters in the youth league department and is said to have had the support of a senior female leader, didn’t wait for the humiliating declaration on Tuesday evening. He bowed out of the race and Atuhaire was declared the 2021 flagbearer.
