On Thursday, November 21st, 2020, the Minister for Security Lt. Gen. Elly Tumwine addressed the press at the Uganda Media Centre, in a bid to give an update on the country’s security situation in light of the recent protests that were sparked off by the arrest of National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential flag bearer Bobi Wine, real name Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu.
Although during his speech he said Police have the right to kill and later added, “government is set to investigate the circumstances under which over 29 people were shot dead in Kampala and other parts of the country during the protests,” it is his appearance that has sparked off most reactions from Ugandans on social media.
Some internet users have come out to claim that the four-star General has been battling a yet-to-be-identified illness that has had a visible negative effect on his looks, and it is probably the reason why he has been silent for some months.
Other users have gone on to make demeaning memes about the General’s looks that we will not share here because we are a right-meaning news website, but you can go and check them out on Facebook.
It should be noted that Gen. Tumwine is one of the long-serving senior officers in the UPDF and has held several big positions in the government of Uganda since the National Resistance Movement (NRM) took power in 1986.
