At least 9 people are confirmed to have died and five others survived with injuries in a terrible accident that occurred in Bombo, along the Gulu-Kampala highway, after a speeding commuter taxi rammed into truck.
According to ASP Faridah Nampiima Public Relations Officer (PRO) Traffic And Road Safety, the territorial Police at Sinalya Village, Kalule along the Kampala- Gulu Highway, in Luweero District, on July 9th, 2022, at around, 14:10Hrs, registered a fatal accident that claimed lives of nine people and Injured other five.
“The accident involved motor vehicle registration number UBD 850J, a Toyota Hiace and UAH 316P, an Isuzu Elf,” Nampiima noted in statement.
She added that; “It is alleged that a speeding motor vehicle registration number UBD 850J Toyota Hiace that was moving from Kampala to Gulu side and while slopping to Sinalya valley got a puncture, lost control and overturned several times, before colliding with an oncoming motor vehicle registration number UAH 316P Isuzu truck, which also overturned after the collision killing eight unidentified passengers (7 female adults and 1 male) in the Toyota Hiace.”
Nampiima revealed that another unidentified female passenger died on the way to Mulago Hospital.
She noted however that the police are still investigating the matter to establish what could have caused the accident and the public will be briefed about their findings.
