At least two people have been confirmed dead and 13 others sustained grave injuries after a commuter taxi they were traveling in rammed into a truck that was parked by the roadside.
The horrible incident happened Friday morning in Katojo, along the Mbarara-Kasese highway, in Sheema District after a Toyota Hiace taxi rammed into a stationary truck that had a mechanical problem.
Among the injured is a yet to be identified Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) officer and several traders.
The dead include the driver of the taxi and a passenger who was seated with him.
Although it is not yet clear what could have caused the accident, Greater Bushenyi regional police spokesperson, Martial Tumusiime attributed the 10:30am road crash to reckless driving.
However, another version about the accident indicates that it happened after a trailer failed to climb a rise and rattled backwards, hitting a taxi which was heading to Fort Portal.
But, despite the varying versions, we have established that the traffic police at Bushenyi Police station are conducting investigations to find what exactly caused this horrible accident.
