Untold horror engulfed parents on Sunday afternoon  after their two-year-old drowned at city tycoon Sudhir   Ruparelia’s Speke Resort Munyonyo hotel.

Although it is not yet clear under what circumstances the baby drowned and how come no one, not even the waitresses saw the baby, we have established that the police have kicked off investigations into  the matter.

This is because although one version  of the story indicates that the   baby drowned in a swimming pool, another  version indicates that the toddler wandered away from her parents and fell in a nearby fish pond and by the time they landed on her she had already died.

ASP Luke Owoyesigire confirmed the incident

ASP Luke Owoyesigire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson, revealed that detectives at Kabalagala police station have since started investigating the matter to establish what could have caused the unfortunate incident.

“It is alleged that the deceased child who had gained access to the premises with her parents Florence Nabawesi and the father only identified as Micheal, was left unattended to  and fell into a nearby Pond,” Owoyesigire said in a statement.

He revealed that the incident was captured on the CCTV footage recovered from the premises and it is being used by detectives to reconstruct the crime scene.

He added that; “The child was rescued and given cardiopulmonary resuscitation by first responders and later taken to Mulago Hospital for treatment, but she was pronounced dead upon arrival.”

Owoyesigyire noted that investigations into the incident are on and currently, it has been ascertained that there was some negligence exhibited by the parents and minders at the hotel.

According to two videos circulating on social media, a couple is seen trying to resuscitate the toddler after she was retrieved from the pool while in the second video, a man believed to be the father of the toddler is seen crying unforgivably at the reception area and is being held back by two men from harming himself.

“Parents are urged to always keep a close eye on their children while moving into new environments,” Owoyesigire cautioned, revealing that more details will be revealed after the police conducting conclusive investigations.

However, by the time we went to press neither tycoon Sudhir nor Speke Resort Munyonyo had issued an official statement about the unfortunate incident.
