The police in Namungona, a Kampala suburb, are investigating circumstances under which a Local Defence Unit (LDU) operative shot dead a student of Metropolitan International University.
According to sources at the University, the deceased has since been identified as Ali Matovu, who was a first year student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Education.
He was reportedly shot dead on Tuesday morning at around 7:00Am at the University premises next to the faculty of education and humanities offices, over allegations that he had stolen a laptop from the faculty.

Ahmed Kiwanuka, the guild president Metropolitan International University, told this website that; “Matovu met his death around 7:00Am at the University premises next to the faculty of education and humanities.”
He however didn’t divulge details about this unfortunate incident and no university administrator was willing to comment about the matter.
The deceased’s corpse was found lying outside the veranda of his hostel, half-dressed; he was putting on pair of trousers, without a shirt.

By the time of filing this story the police had been called to the scene to retrieve the body, which they later took to the KCCA city mortuary for postmortem as investigations continue.
However, the police are yet to issue a statement about the matter and to reveal whether they arrested the killer LDU operative or not, in a bid to establish what could have driven him into shooting Matovu.
We shall bring you details in our subsequent reports.
