A yet to be identified boda-boda rider set himself ablaze on Sunday night at Kireka Police Station after the police impounded his motorcycle, accusing him of riding it beyond curfew hours.
According to reports, the Police arrested the boda-boda man and impounded his motorcycle for riding beyond the 9:00Pm curfew time that was directed by President Yoweri Museveni in June to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the country.
After his pleas with the policemen to release his motorcycle were fruitless, the man decided to take his own life by setting himself on fire.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire has confirmed the incident.
“One person, who is yet to be identified, was rushed to hospital after suffering injuries caused by fire at Kireka police,”Owoyesigire said, without divulging more details.
This is the second boda boda rider to set himself on fire on Police premises this year with the first one identified as Hussein Walugembe,24, who torched himself and died at Masaka Police station on July 2, 2020 after cops had impounded his motorcycle.
We shall bring you updates about this horrible incident after police gives a detailed report following their investigations.
