Three immigrations officials at Entebbe International Airport have been arrested by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU).
The suspects, identified as Caroline Kabugo, Martha Mboneko and Julius Musalwa were arrested over allegations that they attempted to extort money from a refuge and when she refused to give it to them they made her miss a flight and as a result she incurred losses worth millions of shillings.
Shortly after their arrest, the SHACU tweeted thus; “Conducted an operation at Entebbe airport following a whistleblower’s complaint that led to the arrest of 3 Immigration officers; Caroline Kabugo (shift Supervisor), Martha Mboneko & Julius Musalwa(Immigration officers).
They added; “The three allegedly abused their office when they caused a refugee to miss her flight purporting that she had forged clearance documents from the @OPMUganda to the contrary. The traveller has since incurred extra costs in excess of $1800. Investigations are being carried out.”
