Juliana, Shaka Mayanja In Bitter Fallout As Singer Snubs Jazz Safari Event

By Ivan Mwine

There is a bitter  fallout between celebrated singer Juliana Kanyomozi   and city events organizer cum guitarist Shaka Mayanja Ssali.

Apparently, the rift between them started after Shaka and his team advertised Juliana as one of the artistes who will perform at the upcoming Jazz Safari event, which is slated to be held on May 07th, 2022.

However, shortly after Shaka and team releasing the posters bearing Juliana’s pictures,    the artiste came out and issued a public statement  on her social media distancing herself from the event.

“I deeply regret to communicate that I will not participate in the marketed Soul & RnB Safari due to gaps in alignment between the parties involved,” Juliana stated.

She added that ; “I am however humbled  by the overwhelming positive response and promise to make it up to you in the near future.”

The songbird concluded thus; “We wish the promoter all the success at the event.”

It  is not yet clear why Juliana pulled out of the event at the last moment but we have since established that her team failed to reach an amicable understanding with Shaka’s team, hence her decision to snub the event.

Some of the reactions from fans about Juliana Kanyomozi’s decision to snub Jazz Safari

However, our Moles reveal that Juliana’s unexpected decision is likely to have been influenced by a powerful  individual within the corridors of power, who is said to be deeply involved in her private life.

Actually, while replying to one of Jazz Safari followers on Facebook identified as Dennis Asiimwe, Shaka stated thus; “I’m not sure anymore that she made this decision without duress from somewhere. I’ve made this clear. I’ll get to the bottom of this by all means.”

He went on to issue the following statement;

In my thirty seven years’ experience of organising concerts from the lowest level to the highest level, not once have I encountered any Artiste(s) who has not only been financially contracted, but also been presented at a fully-fledged press conference; who turned around and pulled out of a concert with no plausible explanation, and without directly contacting the organisers and sponsors to discuss a way forward.

I have a lot of respect for Ms. Juliana and what she has achieved in her Music career. Indeed I was really looking forward to pulling out all the stops to ensure she had a brilliant performance, and I expressly told her so.

I’m not afraid nor ashamed to say that I’m emotionally distraught, because I take Music so seriously, to still face setbacks like these at the twilight of my career.

Based on her own words as shown below, I’m not so sure what’s really going on, as it’s a bit confusing.

I’m yet to find out the real reasons behind her sudden change of heart, or whoever is behind it. But, I will certainly get to the bottom of this.

In the meantime, I sincerely wish Ms. Juliana all the best in her Music career and future plans.

I’m now fully focused and immersed in preparations to ensure that come Saturday 07th May, lovers of good Live Music get their time and money’s worth.

I’d like to wholeheartedly thank our sponsors and partners for remaining steadfast and still believing in us, and for all the support and encouragement we have received thus far. I do not take your support for granted.

New Artistes to join the festival will be announced this week. If there’s one thing I’m sure of, Music lovers will have a great time and memorable experience at The Soul-R&B Safari.

Blessed Love.”

It  should be noted that the Jazz Safari is one of the most popular music festivals in Uganda especially because it  brings in tourist from several countries, features performances from both local and international artistes and is huge business opportunity.

However, the event had taken a two-year hiatus    following the outbreak of the COVID-19 and the resultant restrictions on public events and recreational facilities.
