The monarch of Buganda kingdom His Majesty Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II on Thursday October 8, 2020, appeared before his subjects at Lubiri-Mengo, for the official ceremony that marks Buganda Kingdom’s Independence Day celebrations, popularly known as ‘Bulungi Bwansi.’
Kabaka Mutebi, who looked every inch in robust health, was flanked at the ceremony by his queen the Nabagereka Sylvia Nagginda, the Katikkiro Owek. Peter Mayiga, plus several Buganda kingdom officials, nobles, princes, princesses and subjects, although the event was a scientific one in a bid to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
During the event, Kabaka Mutebi urged all Baganda and Ugandans at large to ensure that they maintain high levels of sanitation and hygiene if they are to fight COVID-19 and other diseases.
On top of urging them to ensure that the environments they live in are clean, Kabaka Mutebi also urged all Ugandans to observe the Ministry of Health Guidelines aimed at preventing the spread of COVID-19, including the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for people in public or crowded places.
However, this was the first time Kabaka Mutebi was appearing before his subjects ever since he returned to Uganda from Kenya last month, where he had reportedly gone on a duty tour during which he met with President Uhuru Kenyatta and Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
