Renowned author Kakwenza Rukirabashaija, of the ‘Greedy Barbarian’ fame, has been produced in court today and hastily remanded to Kitalya Prisons.
Kakwenza, who has been in illegal detention since December 28th, 2021, when he was abducted by armed plain clothed men from his home in Kisaasi, a city suburb, was charged before Buganda Road Court Chief Magistrate Douglass Singinza with two counts of offensive communication.
Kakwenza however denied the charges the denied and Buganda Road Court Chief Magistrate Singiza remanded him to Kitalya government prison until January 21, 2022 when he will return to court for mention of his case.
According to the charge sheet, prosecution alleges that Kakwenza, willfully and repeatedly used his twitter handle @KakwenzaRukira to disturb the peace of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, with no purpose of legitimate Communication.
Kakwenza allegedly committed the offense on December 24th, 2021, in Kampala district.
Prosecution also alleges that between December 26th and 28th December 2021, Kakwenza used his twitter handle to disturb the peace of First Son Lt.Gen.Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Commander of Land Forces, with no purpose of legitimate Communication, when he called him a drunkard, overweight and a person who does not take care of himself.
Although Kakwenza denied the charges, prosecution told court that investigations into the matter are ongoing and that all evidence pinning the suspect shall be produced in court in due time, as and when required.
Kakwenza’s appearance in court on Tuesday followed a habeas Corpus by issued by Kampala High Court Judge Musa Ssekana on Monday, compelling the Inspector General of Police Martins Okoth Ochola, the Commander of the Special Forces Commandos (SFC) Brig. Gen. Peter Chandia, the Attorney General Kiryowa Kiiwanuka and all security agencies to produce him whether dead or alive.
