Korean Ambassador To Hold Online Taekwondo Poomsae Challenge

In a bid to conform to the new normal, the Korean Ambassador to Uganda will hold the 2021 Korean Ambassador’s Cup Open Taekwondo Competition as a virtual Poomsae challenge.

According to officials at the embassy, the Korean Ambassador’s Cup opens up a Teakwondo Competition which will be online for those who will wish to join.


The submission of the application started on the 1st May and will end on the 25th  June 2021.

Those who would wish to join should know how to participate and those submitting should snd the application to korembassyug@gmail.com.

They should also submit pre-recorded poomsae video.so as to join the Competition.

In these competitions, individuals, pairs and teams are allowed so long as you qualify for the challenge.

It should be noted that this is the first time for Ugandans to compete in the Korean Taekwondo Challenge ever since it started.

About the Challenge

What is the 2021 Korean Ambassador’s Cup Open Taekwondo Competition, Online Poomsae Challenge?

It is an annual Taekwondo event hosted by the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Uganda. This year, due to the COVID-19 Pandemi,c it shall be an online Poomsae challenge.

What is Poomsae?

Poomsae are patterns or a set sequence of movements that consists of various fundamental stances, blocks, punches and kicks logically arranged in a meaningful order in response to attacks from multiple imaginary assailants.

Poomsae is used heavily in Taekwondo rank testing and a skilled instructor can discern the knowledge, skill level, strength, and focus of a student just by watching them perform Poomsae.

How To Submit Video

Videos can be submitted in one of the following ways;

Delivery on USB to the Korean Embassy from 23rd to 25th June, 2021 at midday

 Posted on social media with the hashtag #2021TAEKWONDOUG and the Korean Embassy’s Social Media tagged.

Who Is Eligible To Participate

Anyone of any age or gender can participate in this competition. It is open to both members of Taekwondo Clubs and the general public.

Note that those participating as a part of a taekwondo club cannot participate as an individual that is not part of a taekwondo club and the pair event is open to strictly one male and one female participant.

Suffice it to note too that  except Black belts, all other colour belts can be in the same team, but members of the same team must have the same belt classification which is either black belt or colour belt (Includes all the other colour belts).
