Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) stalwart Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, has vowed to claim the Chair of the Speaker from the incumbent Rt. Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga.
Ssemujju, who is also the Kiira Municipality Member of Parliament (MP) revealed his intention to oust Kadaga on Tuesday morning, during a presser he held at parliament.
He said that for decades the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Parliament have been coming from the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, yet for democracy to prevail, even members of the opposition should be given an opportunity to preside over parliament.
It should however be noted that whereas Ssemujju is eyeing Kadaga’s position, her deputy, Jacob Oulanyah, is also vehemently mobilizing legislators in the August House to vote for him as Speaker in the next parliament.
Oulanyah’s fiery ambition to occupy the position of Speaker has, as a result, often led him onto collision courses with his superior, although they usually mend ties soon thereafter.
We shall bring you details about Ssemujju’s plans on how he intends to capture the Chair from Speaker Kadaga and the other MPs vying for the same position.
