The life of Mityana Municipality Member of Parliament Francis Zaake Butebi is out of danger and he has since been discharged from Lubaga Hospital where he was undergoing treatment after he was attacked together with his bodyguard over the weekend.
Sources from the National Unity Platform (NUP) revealed to this website that Zaake survived death after his team was attacked and beaten up by a group of thugs , who left his bodyguard Ashiraf Sseremba severely injured before they made off with their mobile phones and unspecified amount of money.
It is alleged that Zaake, who is a Parliamentary Commissioner, was attacked together with his team while attending Dua prayers for deceased NUP mobiliser Shakira Nabagesera, who died last month at Naguru hospital.
Reports indicate that the legislator was attacked by a gang of over 20 people who started beating up everyone at the funeral without giving them any reason for the attack.
Following the attack, Zaake and his bodyguard, who is a staunch supporter of NUP leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine, were rushed to Lubaga Hospital for quick medical attention.
We have learnt however that Zaake has since been discharged from hospital while his bodyguard is still undergoing medical attention for the injuries he sustained during the attack.
Shortly after being discharged from hospital Zaake tweeted thus; “Break of the day from Lubaga Hospital.”
I should however be noted that cases of thugs attacking promiment people in the country are on the increase, because Zake’s attack comes a few days following that of Buganda Road Chief Magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu.
Kamasanyu was a few days ago attacked by thugs outside the gate of Green Hill Academy in Kibuli, where she had gone to pick P.L.E results for her daughter.
The thugs brutalized and later robbed valuable items from her but since then the attackers have never been arrested.
However, by press time the police were yet to issue an official statement about MP Zaake’s attack.
