President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has today officiated over the launch of clinical trials for a Ugandan-made drug UBV-10N, designed to treat Coronavirus (COVID- 19).
Speaking during the launch that was held at Mulago hospital, Museveni urged Ugandans and all Africans at large to seek home grown solutions and cut reliance on the west.
“Regarding, this drug, I have actually been involved because when I hear something good Museveni will be there. They came and said they have been using this drug to cure. I don’t want to tell you what they are curing. Let’s first finish this one (COVID) but they have been curing this and that. Then I said give me some names of the people who have been cured and they gave me the names,” Museveni said during the launch.
He added that; “This product, if what they’re saying is true, has ability to kill viruses. The drug is a product of Natural Chemotherauptics Research institute and is said to have antiviral, anti-inflammatory and immunological abilities.”
However, according to officials at Mulago Referral Hospital, the drug, which is already approved by National Drug Authority (NDA) and the National Bureau of Standards (UNBS), will be administered to 128 male and female patients who will present COVID-19 signs and symptoms and its effectiveness will be monitored over a specific period of time.
