Museveni Shakes Up Army Shortly After Changes In Police

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, as Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces, on Thursday promoted senior officers and transferred others to various positions.

The changes in the army, which came shortly after  Museveni had promoted senior police officers,  was confirmed Brig. Gen. Felix Kulaigye, the army spokesperson, in a statement released August 5, 2022.

The senior army officers who were promoted, transferred and posted include;

Maj Gen Samuel Kawaga transferred to Nairobi as Defence Advisor.

Brig Gen Joseph Semwanga appointed Commander of UPDF 1#Division

Brig Gen David Mugisha of 3rd Division appointed Commander SFC.

Brig Gen Felix Busizoari appointed 3rd Division Second in Command.

Lt Col Allan Matsiko promoted to Colonel.

Maj Dancun Kafeero promoted to Lt Col.

Col Herbert Nabimanya transferred from SFC to Land Forces.

Meanwhile, the President had earlier on promoted 773 gazetted police officers to the ranks of AIGP, Senior Commissioner of Police, Commissioner of Police, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Senior Superintendent of Police, and Assistant Superintendent of Police., who include the following;

AIGP Nuwagira John Director Operations

The president has promoted Edwegu Richard, Birungi Ruhuma Charles, Ocaya James,Nuwagira John and Kali Ali Fadul to the rank of AIGP.

Also, 9 other officers were promoted to the rank of SCP from CP, while 33 have been promoted from the rank of ACP to CP.

69 officers have been promoted from the rank of SSP to ACP, 137 from the rank of SP to SSP, 158 from the rank of ASP to SP and 172 officers were promoted from the rank of IP to ASP.

The announcement for the promotion was made by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Hon. Kahiinda Otafiire (Maj. Gen Rtd), at a function held at the Ministry headquarters in Kampala.
