The Deputy Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has revealed that her daughter brought COVID-19 to her home and infected others.
Explaining why parents shouldn’t rush to take back children to school when they reopen in January next year, Among warned that this might result into a surge in infections.
The Deputy Speaker said on twitter thus; “My daughter brought home covid and infected others at home, so closure of schools was a measure to protect our children and I don’t think anyone would like to see our children home.”
Although the Speaker didn’t go into details of how she survived COVID-19 together with her family members, it should be noted that schools are reopening on January 22, 2022, following two years of closure.
Schools were closed by government in March last year following the outbreak of the pandemic in a bid to curtail sporadic infections amongst learners.
However, the decision to close schools triggered off complaints from several parents and human rights activists, who raised concerns about some children becoming pregnant, others getting married off or resorting to doing menial jobs to earn food for the family.
