The COVID-19 vaccine scandal that involves the Minister for Science and Technology Dr. Monica Musenero has taken a strange twist after Ntungamo Municipality legislator Yonah Musinguzi, who exposed the scandal, told Parliament that his life is in danger ever since he raised the matter in the August House.
When Musinguzi raised the matter on the floor of Parliament on Monday, the Deputy Speaker Anita Among announced a Select Committee that is to investigate allegations that Dr. Musenero failed to account for the Shs31Bn that was meant to be used to develop a COVID-19 vaccine in Uganda.
However, after raising the matter in Parliament, Musinguzi now say s that his life is in danger because he has since started receiving anonymous calls of people threatening him to back of the matter and that there are some elements trailing him.
As a result of this, Musinguzi requested the Deputy Speaker to enhance his security, such that he can be able to deliver to Parliament all the evidence pinning Musenero when he is live and kicking.
Meanwhile, whereas Among directed an investigation be conducted into allegations that Musenero misappropriated over Shs31Bn, it should be noted that President Yoweri Museveni on Wednesday directed Parliament and whoever is raising hell for Musenero to leave her alone, because she is a decorated officer of Uganda’s Society of Scientists.
While addressing the nation during the World Science Day Expo on Wednesday, Museveni said that Musenero is a time-tested epidemiologist who did a great job at fighting Ebola and other epidemics in Uganda but was not utilised by officials at the Ministry of Health, reason why he directly employed her under State House.
“I saw some people attacking Dr. Musenero but I don’t know if they know that she is a decorated office. For I don’t see appreciate people’s works from office, I see their works from the field,” Museveni said.
He added that; “So when I saw people attacking her, I said, let me hope they are right, because if they’re not I’m going for them, because you have no right to attack a decorated officer of the Uganda Scientific Community.”
