How much do you spend on food every week? Let us guess: Not Shs30 million, right? Right. But do you know who spends that much? The State House in Nakasero.
Exposed Uganda has come to learn that State House Nakasero and its employees at Okello House spend a staggering Shs30 million on food every week, something that has got the public whispering loudly, wondering what kind of food be that, and how many people does the State House feed.
This has come to light in the case of one Ismail Kivumbi (pictured), who has been sent to remand at Kitalya prison by Grade One Magistrate Marion Mangeni for allegedly stealing Shs30 million that was meant to buy food for State House employees in Nakasero and Okello House in Kampala District.
According to the prosecution, Kivumbi, who joined State House as a gardener but was subsequently promoted to the Catering department, would be given that amount of money to buy food that would last for a week but in the week of February 25, 2021, he allegedly bought food on credit rather than cash from various suppliers.
According to The Observer, Kivumbi told the suppliers that the government would pay later but things went south for him when they started going to the State House to demand their money.
The result was detectives attached to the State House Anti-Corruption Unit arresting Kivumbi as he reportedly tried to flee the country from Entebbe International airport on Sunday last week. He will be at Kitalya prison until April 6, 2021.
