Popular pastor Aloysious Bugingo, of House of Prayer Ministries, has come under fire for allegedly refusing to receive the COVID-19 jab and urging many of his followers not to get vaccinated.
It is alleged that Bugingo not only refused to get vaccinated but also refused officials from Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) from supervising his church to ensure that Standard Operating Procedures (SoPs) were being observed.
It should be noted that President Yoweri Museveni announced the reopening of places of worship during his COVID-19 National address last week, although he directed religious leaders to ensure that they observe SoPs, urge their believers to get vaccinated and operate at 200 people per service.
However, the State Minister for Kampala Kabuye Kyofatogabye told the press on Monday that some church leaders are spreading negative propaganda about the COVID-19 vaccine and others are discouraging their believers from taking the jab.
Minister Kyofatogabye assured Ugandans that COVID-19 vaccines are safe and that religious leaders should encourage their believers to get vaccinated if the government target of vaccinating 5 million people by end of year is to be achieved.
But efforts to get a comment from Bugingo about these allegations were futile because he could not be readily reached through his known telephone lines by press time.
