Popular city lawyer Pheonah Wall Nabaasa, who heads the legal department at the National Water and Sewerage Corporation is the new president of the Uganda law Society (ULS).
Pheona Wall was elected by lawyers in Uganda who subscribe to the ULS during a hotly contested election in which she competed with four competitors.
She polled 441 votes, beating off competition from Bernard Oundo, 427, Nelson Walusimbi, 239, Rashid Ssemambo,212 and Anne Karungi 47 to become the 17th president of the lawyers’ society in Uganda.
Besides Pheona Wall’s victory, Diana Angwech, also a renowned lawyer in Kampala, was elected ULS Vice President, thereby bringing about the first ever all female leadership of the society.
Angwech beat Bernard Mukasa to be elected for the position of vice president.
Pheona Wall is an advocate with a Bachelors’ Degree in Law, a Diploma in Legal Practice and an MBA in Management. She is a governance professional and a public relations practitioner with over 15 years’ experience currently serving as the Senior Manager Legal Services National Water and Sewerage Corporation, a position she has held since June 2014.
She is also the Chairperson of the Legal Aid and Pro Bono Project of the Uganda Law Society.
Pheona is passionate about mentoring young people and is the Patron of the KIU Law Society.
She has served on various Boards including Water FC, Future Investments Group, East African Young Water Professionals, Uganda Law Society, Public Relations Association of Uganda etc.
Pheona was awarded the Hague Institute for Innovations in Law “2018 Talent to Watch” award and is a New Vision 40 under 40 finalist for 2018.
She is a member of various organisations like ICGU, FIDA, IBA, PRAU, ULS and EALS.
Pheona is extensively experienced in legal risk management, regulatory compliance, projects, infrastructure and construction law, board affairs and stakeholder relations management.
A resource in both private and public enterprises with thorough knowledge and hands-on experience in public relations, company secretarial practice, corporate governance, labour law, contract and commercial transactions.
Pheona combines a solid corporate legal background with a well-developed understanding of both commercial and operational drivers of business.
She is passionate about promoting good governance and change management in public institutions, increasing access to justice for the marginalised especially women and children, and promoting the rule of law.
Pheona is principled, passionate and ambitious and thrives under pressure. She also has a healthy hunger for knowledge, and a passion for changing society for better.
