The police have finally arrested five goons suspected to be part of the gang of thugs that are terrorizing motorists along the Northern Bypass.
According to ASP Luke Owoyesigire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson, the suspects were netted during an operation that was conducted by the police on Friday night.
“Our territorial teams of Old Kampala, Kiira Road and Kawempe Divisions have continued conducting operations that led to arrests of hardcore criminals suspected to be behind the ongoing crimes on the Northern Bypass,’ Owoyesigire said in a statement.
He added that; “In last night’s operations, the teams arrested over 30 suspects including their ring leaders, those who have been robbing motorists in traffic jam and criminals using motorcycles to mug from unsuspecting victims.”
Owoyesigire noted that during the operation the police also netted a group of juvenile criminals who have been targeting pedestrians and then mobbing them before stealing all their belongings using pavers as weapons.
He revealed that the operations will continue until criminals are eliminated from the bypass.
It should be noted that the police operations come on heels of massive outcry from motorists using the Northern Bypass about continued attacks by thugs who smash their vehicles before violently robbing the drivers and passengers in the cars they attack.
