Police arrest two over journalist Robert Kagolo’s shooting

On Thursday evening, news broke out that former Uganda Journalists Association (UJA) Robert Kagolo had been shot dead by unknown assailants. It was later revealed by Police that Kagolo’s killer was a Local Defense Unit (LDU) officer who was sired to guard his home.
Kagolo met his death while taking his deceased brother’s children home in Kasengejje, Wakiso district. Kagolo’s brother, Samuel Musiitwa had been brutally murdered the day before.
Yesterday, Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said that as investigations into the matter go on, they have arrested two people in connection with the killing of Kagolo.
“Investigations are ongoing to ascertain what exactly led to this shooting and a joint team of Police and the LDU command are working to find out the cause of this shooting and we will be informing you accordingly,” Owoyesigire said.
One of the people that has been arrested is Samuel Musiitwa’s wife because she is suspected to be an accomplice in the murder of his husband, Kagolo’s brother.
“Within the messages he (Musiitwa) had sent previously during his kidnap and before he died, they were all implicating the wife. That’s what the Police relied on to have the wife as the first suspect as they hunt for the others who we believe could have been behind the murder of Musiitwa,” Owoyesigire said.
Police are linking Kagolo’s murder to his brother’s because prior to Musiitwa’s death, he had sent messages to his two brothers Kagolo and another called William Gantungo implicating his wife and another man she had an affair with as his kidnappers and eventual killers.
By the time of his death, Robert Kagolo was a political show host on UBC’s Star FM.
