The Police are hunting for a gang of gunmen who attacked Principal Judge Dr. Flavian Zeija on Saturday evening, as he drove to Kampala from western Uganda.

According to Jameson Karemani, the Judiciary Spokesperson, the incident occurred a few meters after Mitala Maria along the Kampala-Masaka Road, when the yet to be identified gunmen opened fire at Dr. Zeija’s convoy.

Karemani said that that the gunmen first opened fire at the lead car and when it  passed through, they started shooting at Dr. Zeija’s official vehicle and other cars in his convoy.

Statement from the Judiciary about the attack

“The attackers first targeted hitting the tyres but thank God the vehicles managed to endure the gunfire and pass through. Fortunately, however, no one was hit during the attack,” Karemani, who revealed that the incident occurred between 7:00 and 8:00Pm, said.

He added that; “There hasn’t been an attack on a Principal Judge before, this is the first one.”

Karemani revealed that at the first of the attack the Principal Judge was returning to Kampala from a private function that had been held in western Uganda.

He noted however that the vehicles were severely damaged, whereby the windshield of Dr. Zeija’s vehicle was shattered during the attack.

However, during a press conference held today, the Police spokesperson ASP Fred Enanga  said that the attackers used improvised explosive devices, not guns as had earlier on been reported.
